Why We Chose The Anon Oslo WaveCel: This is the biggest safety innovation we’ve seen in helmets in a long time.

It’s more common than ever to see riders — both pros and punters alike — rocking helmets on the slopes. And while we see upgrades and updates across much of the industry every season, the helmet industry has sat a bit stagnant for several years.

“Okay, so helmets might not be the sexiest thing in the world. But do you know what is sexy? Being safe”

Introducing he Anon Oslo, built with futuristic WaveCel technology that’s been specifically designed to reduce the chances of traumatic brain injury. WaveCel claims to “absorb up to 73% more rotational force than a standard helmet lining”. We’ll explain the tech below, but those numbers look pretty damn good to us. When it comes to protecting your melon, there’s no such thing as ‘too safe’.

Who Is The Anon Oslo WaveCel For?

Providing it fits – anyone and everyone. The stigma that used to surround helmets has slowly but surely evaporated over time, you don’t need to be a ski school dweeb to don a noggin protector anymore.

Materials and Construction

On the outside the Oslo looks just like a regular helmet, but take a peek inside and you’ll see a luminous green honeycomb-esque structure. This 3D matrix is working overtime to ensure you’re as protected as possible when you take a hit to the head.

WaveCel distributes the force of a crash by crumpling and gliding, no matter which direction the impact comes from. The cells flex to divert energy away from your head, and they glide across each other to distribute this impact across a larger surface area, whilst slowing down rotational acceleration.

“Keeping your noggin safe doesn’t have to look whack”

The outer shell is made up of a two-piece ABS construction. This is the first line of defence against obvious external injuries — like a fractured skull — but the WaveCel aims to reduce internal brain trauma.

Features

Of course, the most important job of any helmet is safety, but keeping your noggin safe doesn’t have to look whack. And many of the best helmets out there strike that balance nicely. Anon have gone for a low profile, skate-style aesthetic with the Oslo, and with four sizes available you don’t have to suffer with the bobblehead look.

There are plenty of factors to take into consideration when choosing a snowboard helmet, but making sure you get the right size is paramount. Having a helmet fit properly ensures it’s as effective (and safe) as possible. Anon uses a 360 BOA fit system to allow you to dial in a personalised fit because, as it turns out, one size doesn’t fit all.

“When it comes to protecting your melon, there’s no such thing as ‘too safe’”

Internally, Anon has kitted the Oslo helmet out with a Polartec Power Grid fleece liner for chilly days, and when it starts to heat up the passive ventilation system on the shell allows air to channel through the helmet.

Roundup

Okay, so helmets might not be the sexiest thing in the world, but you know what is sexy? Being safe. Regardless of current tech and popular opinion, we know the great helmet debate will continue to rage on, but there is one thing we can all agree on – no one over the age of 11 should be wearing a ‘wacky’ helmet cover. Ever.

Pros:

  • Reduces the risk of brain injury, not just skull injury
  • Looks a helluva lot better than some other models

Cons:

  • Not as many venting options as some
