Especially with the slightly sketchy audio, you could be forgiven for thinking this footage is straight out of the 80s… but apparently not! Two snowboarders petitioning for a free mountain at Alta last year give us an inside peek at the opinions of skiers, in one of only three resorts in the US that doesn’t allow snowboarding.

Now after seeing this we’ve got to say that we’re not sure we’d actually like to shred Alta, I mean we’re used to there being parts of America where opinions are a little less liberal, but it’s still strange to hear people proudly saying “this whole country was built on discrimination and squashing the little guy”. With this kind of douchebaggery, it’s surprising these two are even that bothered about getting in, but we admire their principles. Somebody’s got to stand up when there are skiers saying “the world deserves some places where you guys can’t be”…

Now, as is the norm with ignorance, the locals’ arguments are about as strong as “it’s just a matter of the mountain…” and one slightly confused lady who goes on to describe how we put on “earrings, nose-rings and everything, then go out snowboarding”. Way to trip over your own poles there guys.

Fortunately, there is also a population of skiers there who realise that a little bit of change might not be the worst thing for these backwards ways.  Also, the fact that places like Alta exist is a probably a blessing for riders who don’t want their shred interrupted by nervous skiers’ proximity bails. Either way we’re just a little offended that the dude at 7.56 has ever touched a snowboard…
