adidas Gonz Civillian 2017-2018 Snowboard Jacket Review

Last year we held up adidas’ signature snowboard jacket as a fine example of something that can perform admirably on the mountain, then allow you to blend in with crowds off it. With the help of a living legend they’ve gone in a very different direction this year, and the results are pretty amazing.

“The adidas Gonz Civillian jacket has an eye-catching pink-and-black design from the pen, and mind, of Mark Gonzales”

The adidas Gonz Civillian snowboard jacket has an eye-catching pink-and-black design from the pen, and mind, of Mark Gonzales. Whilst best known as a skateboarder, the Gonz is no stranger to the snowboarding world – remember his Michi Albin pro model graphic from the early noughties? This time around the story goes that his doodle was supposed to be a one-off, created spontaneously during a Colorado shred trip, but once the three-stripe bigwigs saw what he came up with they decided to put it into production.

As well as designing that epic backprint, Gonz has done his own hand-drawn take on the classic adidas tab logo on the front. Both adorn an outer shell that’s rated at 10,000mm waterproofing and 10,000g breathability, making it suitable for everyday riding in all kinds of weather. The hood is less tech at 5K/5K, but that’s plenty for getting a little extra warmth and protection when you need it.

“It’s definitely a bold look, but in the right hands this looks the absolute business”

Feature-wise, the adidas Gonz Civillian jacket has kept things simple yet functional. You won’t find any crazy tech here, but what you do get is a fuss-free collection of handy bits and pieces. Worried about losing the keys to your apartment? Easy, just attach them to the built-in clip in the right-hand pocket. Riding with tunes? The internal media pocket has you covered. Wanting a snugger fit? The hem and cuffs are easily adjustable, the former with an elastic cord and the latter via velcro (three-striped, of course).

It’s definitely a bold look, but in the right hands this looks the absolute business. For comfort and style that never loses sight of the need to actually be good for snowboarding, the adidas Gonz Civillian jacket is a winner.
