UPDATE: Check out our review of the 2018/2019 Best Snowboard Mitts here
The Inuits figured it out long ago, and it’s still as true today: in cold-weather conditions, nothing beats a mitt.
By wrapping your entire hand around a solid layer of leather or durable synthetics, a mitt retains more of the natural warmth from your hand. At peak season this can make a world of difference to your day; there are still few things less pleasant than getting cold hands on the mountain.
“In cold-weather conditions, nothing beats a mitt”
That’s not to say that they’re only for when the mercury has dropped. Lightweight mitts are available for those who like the style but want something for spring conditions. If you’re still not quite sure what’s right for you, check out our guide to choosing your snowboard gloves.
The downside of wearing mitts is that you get less use of your fingers, so you may have to briefly remove your pair in order to do any fiddly jobs. There are ways around this, however; trigger mitts at least give you use of your index finger (more important than ever in the age of the touch-screen), and some mitts feature a zip that allows for quick access to your fingers without the need to fully expose your hands.
There’s a wide range of models here, covering all bases – and some are so nice that they’ve found their way into The Snowboard 100. A quick look at this list is bound to turn up something that you’d be glad to get your hands on (and indeed in) this winter.
